API pipe has stringent requirements for structural strength, corrosion resistance and heat treatment and hence pose a major challenge for the mill.

Our API ERW Tube Mill is an advanced production system engineered for manufacturing high-strength line pipes that meet the stringent standards of the American Petroleum Institute (API 5L / 5CT). Designed for precision, reliability, and heavy-duty performance, the mill delivers superior-quality pipes for oil and gas transportation, casing, and structural applications.

Equipment Overview

The API ERW tube mill integrates the latest forming and welding technologies to ensure consistent pipe geometry and weld integrity. The line includes uncoiler, shear & end welder, accumulator, precision forming section, high-frequency solid-state welder, seam normalizing furnace, online ultrasonic testing (UT), hydrostatic tester, and automatic cutting and bevelling system. Each section is controlled through a centralized PLC or HMI interface, enabling high automation, precise control, and real-time monitoring of production parameters.

Process Description

The production process begins with the uncoiling and edge preparation of hot-rolled steel strip. The strip is then continuously fed through forming rolls that gradually shape it into a round tube. The edges are heated using high-frequency current and welded together under pressure to form a uniform and defect-free seam. Post-welding, the tube passes through seam annealing and online NDT inspection to ensure the weld meets API specifications for toughness and strength. The pipe is then sized, straightened, hydro-tested, and end-finished before being bundled and dispatched.
